Harry Kane is convinced that Bayern Munich’s fighting spirit during their electrifying 5-4 loss to Paris Saint-Germain will be vital in the upcoming Champions League semi-final return leg in Germany next week.
The Bavarians appeared to be on the back foot when the French side struck twice within two minutes early in the second half, extending their lead to 5-2.
However, Bayern responded valiantly with goals from Dayot Upamecano and Luis Diaz in a swift three-minute spell, narrowing the deficit to 5-4 and significantly enhancing their prospects of overturning the tie next week in Munich.
In the other semi-final, Atletico Madrid are set to face Arsenal on Wednesday.
“Next week, it will come down to who seizes their opportunities,” stated Kane, who had earlier given the visitors the lead with a penalty in the 17th minute. “There were numerous chances in today’s match, and we can expect a similar scenario next week. With our home crowd cheering us on, we hope their support will help us get over the line.“
“Overall, we had instances when we could have decisively taken control of the game earlier. Yet, we take great satisfaction from clawing our way back to 5-4, especially after being 5-2 down away from home, which can be quite daunting. But we fought hard and have brought ourselves back into contention.“
Kane, now the first English player to score in six consecutive Champions League matches, has accumulated 13 goals in the tournament this season.
The match will surely be remembered as a classic, having set the record for the highest-scoring semi-final in Champions League history.
“We missed opportunities where we could have been more clinical with our final pass or finish,” Kane remarked. “As the game progressed, we felt we improved, especially as they began to tire. We need to maintain that level of intensity for next week.“
“I believe we witnessed two top-tier teams today, especially in terms of attacking play and transitions, with a rapid pace and high intensity in one-on-one situations. It was truly two of the best teams going head-to-head.“
