LIV Golf is poised to delay its next event in Louisiana, raising increasing concerns about the future viability of the Saudi-backed league.
This move contradicts the earlier assertions made by LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil, who vowed they would proceed “exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle”.
According to WDSU, a local news outlet in New Orleans, the Louisiana event’s postponement stems from LIV’s financial difficulties.
The report indicates that the city is awaiting LIV to secure and confirm additional funding.
The Athletic subsequently confirmed the postponement, stating there are hopes to reschedule the event for September or October.
This is notable given that the season-ending Team Championship is set for late August, and Louisiana is amenable to the rescheduling.
The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund has invested $7 billion into establishing LIV Golf since its dramatic introduction to the sports world in 2021.
Leading Australian golfer Cameron Smith is part of LIV’s roster, and uncertainty looms over his future if the tour were to collapse.
As it stands, it seems they are on the verge of retracting, coinciding with a shift towards artificial intelligence investments.
This has cast a significant shadow over the future of LIV Golf, despite O’Neil’s attempts to promote a sense of calm.

“While the media landscape is rife with speculation, our reality is determined by the work we accomplish on the grass,” he stated to ESPN back in March.
“We’re moving into the core of our 2026 schedule with the full might of an organisation that’s larger, louder, and more influential than ever before.”
This postponement creates a notable gap in the calendar, with no LIV events scheduled between June 7 and July 23.
All attention will be on the upcoming events in Spain and the UK during June and July, and the uncertainty surrounding their status.
Meanwhile, South Australia has reached an agreement with LIV Golf to host events until 2031.
