Real Madrid have narrowed the gap to leaders Barcelona to just eight points after Vinícius Júnior’s initial goal was equalised by Real Betis in injury time, resulting in a 1-1 draw and maintaining an unbeaten streak of four league encounters at home.
Following his crucial contribution in the midweek victory over Alavés, it took Vinícius Júnior less than 20 minutes to ignite the scoring at Betis’ temporary venue at La Cartuja.
The Brazilian winger had the straightforward task of slotting home after Álvaro Valles could only parry Federico Valverde’s powerful long-range effort. Vinícius’ 13th league goal of the season left the hosts momentarily stunned as they struggled to respond.

However, Real Madrid’s comfort was short-lived as Betis began to come alive in the latter stages of the first half. Keeper Andriy Lunin, stepping in for the injured Thibaut Courtois, was called into action to make three vital saves in quick succession, including two excellent stops against Antony.
Just as Madrid thought they had doubled their lead through Kylian Mbappé, who volleyed in from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s precise cross, the goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR check confirmed he had strayed beyond the last defender. This was a disappointing moment for Mbappé, marking his 100th competitive match for Real Madrid without a goal.
With Madrid still vulnerable, Betis tried to level the score with substitute Cucho Hernández, whose half-volley required a fingertip save from the alert Lunin.

Valles, Betis’ goalkeeper, was also busy keeping out attempts from Mbappé and Valverde, ensuring his side remained in contention for a much-needed point.
His efforts paid off in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Héctor Bellerín struck a late equaliser. The former Arsenal player capitalised on a loose ball in the box, finishing coolly at the near post, ensuring Real Madrid’s wait for a LaLiga clean sheet now extends to 10 matches.
Bellerín’s second goal of the season has propelled fifth-placed Betis six points clear of their rivals, while Barcelona now have the opportunity to extend their lead over Los Blancos to 11 points.
