Chelsea have confirmed that manager Liam Rosenior has parted ways with the club after just four months at the helm of Stamford Bridge.
The English coach was brought on board in January 2026, following the resignation of former manager Enzo Maresca, and secured an initial six-and-a-half-year contract.
Rosenior began his tenure with a flourish, achieving six victories in his first seven matches across all competitions, including commendable displays in the Champions League group stage that secured a place in the knockout rounds.
However, the situation quickly deteriorated as Chelsea suffered a humiliating exit from European competition, losing 8-2 on aggregate to PSG.
This slide in form was mirrored in the Premier League, where the Blues have experienced five consecutive defeats, conceding 11 goals without scoring any, causing them to drop to seventh place in a tightly contested table—just three points clear of 12th.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Liam and his staff for their contributions during their time at the club,” read a club statement.
“Liam has consistently conducted himself with the highest level of integrity and professionalism since his appointment mid-season.
“This decision was not made lightly; however, recent results and performances have not met our required standards, especially with so much at stake this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam all the best in his future endeavours.”
Following a 3-0 loss to Brighton, Rosenior didn’t hold back in expressing his frustration towards his players.
“I feel numb and absolutely furious. I speak candidly about what I witness, and that performance was simply unacceptable. The goals we gave away were indefensible, and I must take responsibility for that,” he remarked post-match.
“This wasn’t a tactical issue; it was about desire, spirit, and courage, and I didn’t see nearly enough of those qualities.”
“That was nowhere near good enough, and we must make improvements.”
Chelsea’s last remaining chance for silverware lies in the FA Cup, where they are set to face Leeds United in the semi-finals on Sunday, April 26th.
