Bayern Munich and German forward Serge Gnabry has confirmed on Wednesday that he will be sidelined for this summer’s World Cup due to a thigh injury.
On Saturday, Bayern Munich revealed that Gnabry would be unavailable for “an extended period” due to an adductor injury, with reports from German media suggesting this would exclude him from the 2026 tournament as well.
The 30-year-old has announced he will not return to play this season, thus ruling himself out of the World Cup set to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
“The past few days have been challenging to come to terms with. Bayern still has plenty at stake after clinching another Bundesliga title over the weekend,” Gnabry shared on social media.
“Unfortunately, my World Cup dream with Germany has come to an end.”
“Like many others in the country, I will be cheering the team on from home. Now, my focus shifts to recovery and preparing for pre-season.”
The former Arsenal player has been a consistent presence in the squad under Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, having netted 26 goals in 59 appearances for his nation.
