Liam Rosenior has cautioned Chelsea that their quest for Champions League qualification is at a critical juncture ahead of Saturday’s pivotal encounter with Manchester United.
Rosenior’s side, currently sitting in sixth place, is on a poor streak with only one win from their last seven Premier League outings, jeopardising their chances of competing in Europe’s top-tier club tournament.
Manchester United, who are in third, will head to Stamford Bridge with Chelsea trailing by seven points, while Liverpool, sitting in fifth, are four points ahead of the Blues.
It has been over six weeks since Chelsea last found the net in the league.
With only six fixtures remaining, Rosenior understands the urgency to climb into the top five and knows they cannot afford to dwell on last weekend’s disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City.
“As the season progresses, the fewer games you have left, the more critical each match becomes,” Rosenior told reporters on Thursday.
“We must seize this opportunity. Time is not on our side.

“We must show initiative on Saturday, play aggressively, and reclaim those points; it’s still very much within our reach.
“When I analyse each match, it often comes down to lapses in concentration or focus that spiral into broader performance issues.”
“We need to manage the fine margins of each game more effectively.”
A protest by Chelsea fans is set to take place before the match against United, highlighting increasing dissatisfaction since BlueCo assumed ownership from Roman Abramovich nearly four years ago.
Unless there is a significant turnaround in results over the coming weeks, this season will mark the first under the club’s American proprietors where Chelsea’s league standing has taken a dive.
Rosenior’s position may also come under scrutiny following a lacklustre start to his tenure, which began in January when he succeeded Enzo Maresca from Strasbourg.
Maresca left by mutual agreement after suggesting he did not receive enough backing from the ownership.
Strasbourg is also owned by BlueCo, leading some fans to express concerns over Rosenior’s appointment, claiming he might be a mere figurehead for the board, in stark contrast to the more erratic Maresca.
“Every supporter has their perspective,” commented Rosenior. “All fans want their club to thrive and achieve victories. My responsibility is to secure those results over the long term.”
