The son of rugby league icon Brad Fittler has earned selection for the Australian under-20 Rugby Championship tour in South Africa.
Zach Fittler, a powerful centre who shifted his focus to rugby union in recent years, is part of a 31-player squad scheduled to compete in three matches at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, located in the eastern region of South Africa.
Previously, Fittler played rugby league for the Roosters in both the Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball, and was a NSW Blues junior representative. However, he decided to pursue a professional rugby union career and signed a two-year development contract with the NSW Waratahs in September 2024.
Fittler was also a member of the first XV at The Scots College and shone in the Waratahs’ successful under-16 National Championship campaign in 2022.
Chris Whitaker, the coach of Australia’s under-20 side, stated, “We are eager to carry the momentum from our week-long camp in Coffs Harbour and build on that with three demanding matches in South Africa.”

“The Rugby Championship U20 offers us an invaluable opportunity to further our development as a team against formidable opponents in distinctive conditions,” Whitaker added. “Our squad is prepared to tackle the challenge and is thrilled to have the opportunity to represent Australia on the international stage.”

Australia’s fixtures include matches against New Zealand on April 27, South Africa on May 4, and Argentina on May 9.
