This weekend’s Christchurch Super 440 is set to make history as Supercars prepares for its eagerly awaited debut on New Zealand’s South Island.
Ruapuna Raceway is primed to welcome its inaugural Supercars event, with teams and drivers putting the finishing touches on their preparations for the second and final leg of the season’s trans-Tasman adventure.
After last weekend’s round in Taupō was disrupted by Cyclone Vaianu, officials have revised the schedule to include an additional race on Friday.
Track activity will kick off with a single practice session at 9:35 a.m. NZST, followed by qualifying at 2:15 p.m., and then Race 10 of the 2026 season will commence at 4:35 p.m.
Local hero Ryan Wood aims to build on his recent success after securing his first Supercars victory on home turf in the last race at Taupō.
The Wellington native, who drives for Toyota, currently leads the standings for the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, awarded to the top points scorer across the two New Zealand rounds.
All eyes will also be on Championship leader Brodie Kostecki, who won the opening race last weekend and heads into Christchurch with added momentum.
Supercars veteran David Reynolds will reach a significant career milestone as Saturday’s race marks his 500th start in the category.
The race for the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy remains competitive, with Broc Feeney closely following Wood, as four races remain to determine this year’s champion.
The trophy honours the late Jason Richards, a cherished figure in Australasian motorsport and esteemed New Zealand competitor.
Fans can tune in to all the live action on Kayo and Foxtel in Australia, and Sky Sport in New Zealand, as Christchurch gears up for a landmark weekend of racing.
