Ousmane Dembele, the standout performer with two goals, praised his Paris Saint-Germain teammates for their resilience in challenging conditions, guiding them to a 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday in the Champions League quarter-final second leg, securing a 4-0 aggregate win to advance to the semis.
“This is the Champions League quarter-finals, in a venue like this, and despite our 2-0 lead from the first leg, we were aware it would be tough,” Dembele told Canal Plus.
“There are no easy matches in the Champions League. You need to endure if you wish to succeed in this tournament.”
As reigning champions, PSG entered the match with a 2-0 cushion from the first leg, yet they faced extended periods of pressure, particularly in the second half, as Liverpool unleashed a total of 21 shots on a rainy, blustery evening.
Dembele netted the first goal in the 72nd minute and sealed PSG’s victory and progression to the semi-finals in stoppage time.
They will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the last four, with the first leg scheduled to take place in Paris on April 28th or 29th.
“We created opportunities in the first half. I believe we managed the game well initially, but it became more challenging in the second half, which is only to be expected in the Champions League,” remarked last year’s Ballon d’Or winner, Dembele.
“Every team left in this competition is strong, but we’ve come through this tie with two victories, which is fantastic.”
After battling injuries that sidelined him for much of the first half of the season, Dembele’s brace against Liverpool brings his tally to 16 goals across all competitions this season, including 12 in 2026.
“I aim to support the team in every match, whether that’s by scoring, assisting, or applying pressure on the goalkeeper,” the 28-year-old forward from France expressed.
“I strive to give my all for Paris Saint-Germain, and I’m hopeful for a very strong finish to the season, as significant matches lie ahead.”
