Ousmane Dembele, the double goal-scorer, praised his Paris Saint-Germain teammates for their resilience in tough conditions, steering them to a 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday. This win secured their place in the Champions League semi-finals with a convincing 4-0 aggregate score.
“It’s the quarter-finals of the Champions League, in a venue like this, and although we had a 2-0 lead from the first leg, we were aware it was going to be a challenge,” Dembele remarked during an interview with Canal Plus.
“There are no easy matches in the Champions League. You have to endure if you want to progress in this competition,” he added.
The reigning champions, PSG, entered the second leg with a 2-0 cushion from the first match and faced significant pressure, particularly in the second half, as Liverpool mustered 21 shots on goal on a rainy and blustery evening.
Dembele broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute before sealing PSG’s victory and their semi-final advance in the dying moments of the match.
They will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, with the first leg scheduled to take place in Paris on April 28th or 29th.
“We created opportunities in the first half. I felt we managed the game well initially, but the second half proved more challenging, which is expected at this level,” remarked last year’s Ballon d’Or winner Dembele.
“This tournament features only top teams, but we finished this tie with two victories, which is fantastic.”
Though injuries hindered Dembele’s availability for much of the first half of the season, his impressive double against Liverpool takes his tally to 16 goals across all competitions for the campaign, with 12 netted in 2026.
“I strive to assist the team in every match, whether it’s by scoring, providing an assist, or applying pressure on the goalkeeper,” the 28-year-old French forward said.
“I aim to give my all for Paris Saint-Germain, and I hope to finish the season strongly, as there are significant matches ahead.”
