Liam Rosenior acknowledged that Chelsea finds itself in a “challenging situation” following a disappointing 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday, which has intensified scrutiny on the Blues’ manager.
Rosenior’s team conceded three goals in the second half at Stamford Bridge, with Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi, and Jeremy Doku scoring for a title-contending City.
Currently, Chelsea is stuck in sixth place in the Premier League, four points adrift of fifth-placed Liverpool, as they strive for a top-five finish.
With their hopes of securing a Champions League spot hanging by a thread, Rosenior is facing pointed inquiries regarding Chelsea’s recent struggles since taking over from Enzo Maresca in January after joining from Strasbourg.
The Blues have suffered five defeats in their last six matches across all competitions, including three consecutive losses in the Premier League.
In those three league defeats, Chelsea has failed to register any goals, and Rosenior admitted that they have not lived up to the standards he expects.
“Not good enough in the second half. This has been a consistent issue over the past month regarding how we handle setbacks,” he stated.
“When you fall behind against such strong teams, the priority for the next five minutes is to stay in the contest. Unfortunately, the second half became extremely tough for us.”

The Chelsea fans directed boos at the players as they left the pitch, and Rosenior is aware that he may face increased criticism from disgruntled supporters if results do not improve as the season concludes.
“I take responsibility for this. It’s a collective effort. There are areas where we must improve, beginning with our habits and core values. While I cannot fault the effort, there was a distinct lack of confidence in the second half,” he said.
“We must make progress. We’re currently in a tough situation, and we have another massive game ahead next week.”
“We must remember we were up against a team in tremendous form competing for the title. However, we need to secure wins in matches like these. That’s precisely why I joined the club.”
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez was absent again after Rosenior’s controversial choice to suspend him.
Fernandez upset Rosenior by suggesting recently that he might be open to a summer transfer.
However, he will be reinstated next week after discussions with the rest of the squad.
“Every team would miss Enzo. The decision was made in conjunction with the leadership group and sporting directors for the club’s long-term benefit,” Rosenior explained.
“Enzo wanted to speak with the senior players in the squad. He has discussed matters with me, the leadership team, and all players involved.”
“There’s nothing personal regarding Enzo. He will rejoin the group on Tuesday. He’s a top talent and a genuinely good person.”
