Golfing icon Gary Player has faced backlash following a “creepy” remark directed at a female reporter during The Masters event.
The 90-year-old, a three-time Masters champion, made his comments to Anna Jackson, a Sky Sports golf reporter, during the traditional par-3 tournament on Thursday morning (AEST).
As Jackson began to introduce Player on the UK broadcast, he interrupted her.

“I’m here with the …,” she began, but Player interrupted with a remark aimed at the camera operator.
“How are you guys? No wonder you’re smiling working with this good-looking chick, eh…”
Jackson appeared taken aback by his comment but composed herself to continue with the interview.
“Well, Mr Player, what a way to kick things off! You are, of course, part of the distinguished trio of honorary starters set to tee off on Thursday morning. It’s lovely to see you back at the par-3; you look fantastic, and it seems you’re playing well. How are you feeling?”
Many viewers quickly took to social media, criticising Player’s remarks as “creepy” and “unacceptable”, while others highlighted the significant age difference.
Jackson is a respected figure in golf and also works with NBC and the Golf Channel in the US. She is reported to be in her mid-30s, which is significantly younger than Player.

The interview proceeded without further incident, with Player discussing his impressive fitness levels, which have allowed him to continue playing the game at a high standard—despite not being a professional—at an age when many of his contemporaries have long since retired.
“Well, I’m 90 years old, and I’m still hitting par,” Player remarked.
“I’ve already made three birdies. It’s a thrill for me. I’ve been coming here for 68 years, ever since one of my heroes, President Eisenhower, was around.”
Player is among a select group of golf legends, including Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus, who are invited annually to strike the ceremonial first balls on Thursday mornings at Augusta.
