England’s ODI captain, Harry Brook, along with all-rounder Jacob Bethell, has received warnings from the independent Cricket Regulator following an investigation into their involvement in a scuffle with a nightclub bouncer in New Zealand late last year.
Brook, who confessed in January to having fabricated details to shield his teammates, initially claimed he was the sole participant in the confrontation in Wellington after being refused entry to a nightclub.
Both players acknowledged their breach of conduct standards, with ESPN Cricinfo referring to the reprimand as a “slap on the wrist”.
The regulator’s findings noted, “No participant may conduct themselves in a manner, perform any act, or commit any omission at any time that is improper, may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket, or which may bring the ECB, the game of cricket, or any cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute.”
Bethell and Brook are on a final warning after accepting the “caution notices”.

The caution will remain on their disciplinary record for three years, but no charge letter will be issued.
Fast bowler Josh Tongue was also present during the incident.
The regulator stated, “No further action will be taken regarding Josh Tongue.”
Rob Key, managing director of England Cricket, expressed concerns about the drinking habits of some players in light of the review into the team’s Ashes campaign.
“Like many teams, there are a couple of players who can act irresponsibly with alcohol when the chance arises,” he remarked.
“We’re aiming to strike a balance.”
In preparation for England’s tour of Sri Lanka and the T20 World Cup earlier this year, management implemented a midnight curfew that is expected to continue throughout the European summer.
