Ipswich Town has kept their faint hopes of Premier League survival alive with a crucial 2-1 win against AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, marking the Tractor Boys’ first victory of 2025.
After facing disappointment in the FA Cup quarter-finals against Manchester City just days before, Bournemouth had little time to regroup ahead of their final nine matches in what could be a historic season.
There were concerns among some Cherries fans about a sluggish start due to the quick turnaround, and the first half unfortunately reflected those fears with a rather lacklustre performance.
Nonetheless, the home side created the initial scoring chances, with Antoine Semenyo’s long-range shot saved by Alex Palmer, and Alex Scott’s goalbound attempt being blocked only metres from the goal line by Dara O’Shea, followed by another near-post effort that Palmer managed to save.
Just when it seemed the Tractor Boys might struggle, they delivered a significant blow to the hosts with their first shot on target just 10 minutes before the break.

With a beautifully placed through ball from Julio Enciso, Nathan Broadhead made a swift move past Dean Huijsen and skillfully sent the ball between Kepa Arrizabalaga’s legs to hand the visitors an unexpected lead going into half-time.
The joy among the away supporters doubled on the hour mark when a long pass found Liam Delap, who paired up with Conor Townsend before receiving another pass in the box and hammering it into the net, doubling Ipswich’s lead.
Despite a penalty decision in Bournemouth’s favour, which was initially promising, VAR stepped in to clarify that Axel Tuanzebe’s foul on Semenyo had occurred just outside the penalty area.

However, just five minutes later, Bournemouth found a way back into the match when Evanilson capitalised on a rebound after Palmer had parried Lewis Cook’s shot, providing the Brazilian with the straightforward task of nudging it over the line.
Under mounting pressure in the closing minutes, the Tractor Boys showed commendable resilience, managing to hold on for what might prove to be a vital three points in their battle against relegation.
Kieran McKenna’s team remains in the relegation zone, still nine points adrift of safety, but this victory has rekindled their hope. Meanwhile, this unexpected defeat for Bournemouth could have serious implications, leaving them in 10th place and on the brink of dropping out of contention for European qualification.
