FC Copenhagen forward Magnus Mattsson has expressed that it was the least favourable scenario for the Danish outfit when they were matched against Chelsea in the Round of 16 for the Conference League.
“Chelsea is a prestigious club with a strong squad. They’ve proven to be the toughest opponent we could have drawn, but that’s the nature of the draw. We’re eager to take on these two exciting fixtures,” the striker shared in an interview with FCK TV.
Under the guidance of Jacob Neestrup, the team secured an 18th position in the 36-team league phase, having notably triumphed over Hearts of Scotland and then overcoming the German Bundesliga’s Heidenheim in extra time during the play-off round.
FC Copenhagen previously advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League last season, ultimately being knocked out by Manchester City.
In their last encounter during the 2011 Champions League Round of 16, Chelsea emerged victorious with a 2-0 aggregate score.
The first legs of the last-16 ties are scheduled for Thursday, March 6, with the return legs set for Thursday, March 13.
