On Tuesday, Parma Football Club announced the appointment of Cristian Chivu (44) as their new manager, marking the Romanian’s inaugural senior coaching position. He takes over from Fabio Pecchia.
Chivu has prior experience coaching youth teams at Inter Milan, the club where he concluded his playing career, from 2018 until 2024.
The decision to part ways with Pecchia came after the club suffered their fourth straight defeat, leaving them in the relegation zone. Pecchia had been at the helm since 2022, successfully leading Parma to promotion from Serie B at the conclusion of last season.
In a statement, Parma announced: “Chivu, along with his staff comprising Antonio Gagliardi (assistant manager), Angelo Palombo (technical assistant), and Nicola Pavarini (goalkeeper coach), will commence training with the squad later today at the Mutti Training Centre.”
Chivu’s debut match in charge will be a home fixture against Bologna on Sunday. Currently, Parma sits 18th in Serie A with 20 points from 25 matches, just a single point behind Empoli in 17th place, which is above the relegation zone.
