Manchester United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim (40), has expressed his view that the team’s declining performance on the field is contributing to the recent job cuts at Old Trafford.
This summer, co-owner Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos company faced criticism for laying off about a quarter of United’s workforce, with further redundancies anticipated as they attempt to address losses amounting to £300 million over the last three years.
Additionally, ticket prices have risen, and Amorim, whose squad currently sits in 14th place in the Premier League, emphasised that the first team must acknowledge their role in the challenges faced by the renowned club.
“I think it’s essential for us in the first team, both coaches and players, not to overlook this situation,” said the United manager.
“People are losing their jobs, so it’s crucial we recognise that.”
“The major issue lies with the football team; we’re the ones spending the money, yet we aren’t winning. We’re not in the Champions League, which means our revenue has decreased.”
“People are losing their jobs, and that has an impact on the overall environment, so it’s something we cannot ignore.”
The Portuguese coach continued: “We recognise this issue, and I want to emphasise that the responsibility lies with the first team.”
This Sunday, United will face fellow strugglers Tottenham, who are just below them in 15th place on the table.
