AC Milan has secured the services of Portuguese forward Joao Felix (25) on loan from Chelsea for the remainder of the season. In a reciprocal move, Chelsea has signed French midfielder Mathis Amougou (19) from Saint-Etienne on an eight-year contract, as announced by the Premier League club on Tuesday.
Reports from British media suggest that Amougou’s transfer to Chelsea came at a cost of approximately £12 million.
Felix originally joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in August on a seven-year deal, with a transfer fee believed to be £46 million, but has found it challenging to secure regular playing time during his second stint with the London club.
Since making the switch, Felix has started only three Premier League matches, netting a solitary goal on his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
At AC Milan, Felix will team up with Portuguese manager Sergio Conceicao.
Amougou, a France U-19 international, began his journey with Saint-Etienne as a youth player in 2021 and has featured in 17 Serie A matches for the newly-promoted team this season.
“It’s a privilege to sign for such a prestigious club as Chelsea. They have a strong belief in nurturing young talent, and the development process they offer is remarkable,” Amougou stated.
Milan, following a 1-1 draw with Inter Milan in Sunday’s derby, currently sits in eighth place in Serie A and faces AS Roma in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Chelsea, presently fourth in the Premier League, will travel to Brighton & Hove Albion for an FA Cup match on Saturday.
