Australian cricketer Travis Head has been awarded the 2025 Allan Border Medal.
Over the past year, he played nine Tests, scoring 636 runs, participated in five ODIs with a strike rate of 120, and made 15 T20Is where he amassed 539 runs, culminating in an exceptional season across all formats.
Receiving his medal from Australian coach Andrew McDonald in Sri Lanka, Head celebrated with a thumbs up and cheers just before the second Test, which is set to commence on Thursday.
The 31-year-old accepted the honour with humility.
“It’s been great to come close in previous years without winning, as this isn’t exactly my strong suit,” Head chuckled.

“It’s somewhat hard to believe – it’s been a fantastic year, and I’m really pleased with how the team has performed and how I’ve managed to contribute,” he added.
“I’m fortunate to play in multiple formats, which makes the experience even more enjoyable.”
Although he acknowledged that individual accolades are not the primary motivation for playing, he fondly recalled the Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory on home turf as a standout moment of the season.
“It’s hard to overlook the summer series we completed against India,” Head reflected.

“They’ve performed exceptionally well against us in recent times, and to contribute to that victory will certainly go down as one of my better moments.”
Head secured the award after receiving a total of 208 votes, outpacing Josh Hazlewood, who garnered 158 votes, and Test captain Pat Cummins, who managed 147 votes.
In addition to the Allan Border Medal, Head was also named the Men’s ODI Player of the Year.
