Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou (59) is eager for his team to capitalise on their recent back-to-back Premier League victories as the club’s injury woes begin to subside.
Victories against Brentford and Manchester United have propelled Postecoglou’s squad to 12th place in the league, alleviating concerns about the threat of relegation.
Before these wins, Spurs had managed just one victory in their last 11 league fixtures, prompting a significant drop down the standings as injuries continued to accumulate.
Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and match-winning midfielder James Maddison made their return to the starting XI against United last weekend, while Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert, and Destiny Udogie were among the substitutes.
Centre-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are expected to be back for the upcoming clash against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League last 16 next month.
In the lead-up to that fixture, Postecoglou is keen to further bolster Spurs’ league standing with matches against Ipswich on Saturday, followed by a visit from Manchester City on Wednesday.
“We understand that the match against Ipswich won’t be straightforward, but it presents an opportunity for us to achieve another strong performance, secure a positive result, and hopefully set a solid foundation for our next steps,” Postecoglou remarked.
The former Australian national team coach suggested that players like Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski might be given a breather during the trip to Portman Road, having carried a heavy load throughout the club’s recent injury troubles.
“As we gear up for European fixtures, we know we’ll be facing matches midweek and on weekends, so we need to manage our energy carefully and avoid losing any players during this period,” Postecoglou added.
“With the return of some key players, we have the chance to maintain high performance levels while also allowing a bit of rest for guys like Pedro and Kulusevski.”
