A riveting clash unfolded at Suncorp Stadium as the youthful talents of the Dolphins, Kodi Nikorima and Isaiya Katoa, shone brightly in a surprising win over the Storm.
Nikorima’s standout moment arrived just after half-time, in the 46th minute, when he dodged Melbourne’s defence with a deft flick pass that enabled Ray Stone to score, putting the Dolphins ahead 18-16.
“That’s classic Kodi Nikorima,” noted Cameron Smith on Nine.

Both teams entered the encounter missing key players, with Harry Grant and Jeremy Marshall-King sidelined due to injuries.
The Dolphins faced a rocky start as the Storm jumped to a 12-2 lead, and things worsened when Max Plath was forced out of the game due to a foot injury.
In the 17th minute, the Storm would also be down a player, with Jack Howarth leaving the field after dislocating his shoulder.
“That looks quite serious,” said Smith.
Melbourne extended their lead shortly after, with Ryan Papenhuyzen scoring. However, the Dolphins responded just before half-time with tries from Josh Kerr and Jack Bostock, narrowing the deficit to 16-12.

Despite being underdogs, the Dolphins stung the Storm with a relentless second half.
Nikorima assisted Stone once again, followed by a try from Connelly Lemuelu. Stone then completed his double, and Nikorima slipped over for his own score, pushing the tally to 36-16.
Herbie Farnworth capitalised on a Storm mistake, finishing with a spectacular swan dive in the corner, bringing the score to an incredible 40 unanswered points.

“This could easily be their finest victory,” Smith remarked.
The frustrations of the Storm were evident as the match drew to a close, with Kerr forcing a knock-on from Tyran Wishart via a ferocious tackle that ignited tensions on the field, leading to both Trent Loiero and Kurt Donoghoe receiving ten-minute sin-bins.
Melbourne managed a late consolation try from Kane Bradley, but the Dolphins sealed their remarkable 42-22 triumph.
This victory marks the Dolphins’ first-ever win against the Storm.
Amidst the disappointment, Melbourne awaits further news regarding the judiciary report on Tui Kamikamica, who was placed on report for a high tackle in the second half.
Next week, Melbourne faces off against South Sydney on Friday, while the Dolphins will take on Canberra on Sunday.
