Australian swimming phenomenon Kaylee McKeown is uncertain about what to expect from the unique format of the Australia vs The World event, taking place at Brisbane’s The Valley Pool this Friday evening.
In a thrilling night of competitive swimming, the Australian Dolphins will face off against the globe’s elite in both traditional distance races and innovative new formats.
The details of the competition, featuring ‘skins’ elimination races, surprise relays, and revised rules, are being kept secret by the organisers, adding an extra layer of intrigue.
In a conversation with Nine’s Today, McKeown was tight-lipped about the specifics of the unconventional competition layout.

“I wish I could provide more specifics, but all I know is that this will not be your standard racing format typically seen at world championships or the Olympics,” she stated.
“There will be some 25m sprints, and for me and several other elite swimmers, there’ll be three 50m races featuring a ‘skins’ format, meaning it will be elimination-style in each round.
“It’s basically a blend of training and competitive racing rolled into one.”
Recently, McKeown was honoured with the title of Swimming Australia’s Olympic program Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive time.

This award acknowledged McKeown’s accomplishments over the past year, which included defending her world titles in the 100m and 200m backstroke at the World Championships in Singapore, along with shattering the 200m backstroke short course world record two times during the World Cup Series in October.
“It’s been an incredibly eventful year,” McKeown reflected.
“I intended to take it easy this year, but it has turned out to be the complete opposite.
“However, I truly enjoy participating in these competitions. This initiative is so fresh, intended to draw people in ahead of [Brisbane] 2032 and showcase what swimming is about, featuring new faces within the swimming community.”
After an intense few years, McKeown shared how meaningful it has been to accomplish her dreams.
“It’s surreal to see your dreams, goals, and aspirations come to fruition,” she shared.
“Standing on the podium in Paris is an experience I will always cherish.
“Unlike Tokyo, where I couldn’t have my family in the stands, that moment in Paris was particularly special for me. Seeing my family there and knowing they could witness me achieve my dreams live was truly the highlight of my past year.
McKeown will be competing in the backstroke events on Friday evening.
