Victorian and Australian cricket sensation Will Pucovski has announced that he will be stepping away from the game for good due to recurring concussion issues.
During an appearance on SEN’s Whateley on Tuesday morning, Pucovski made his retirement official.
“I won’t be returning to play cricket again,” he stated.

“It’s been a truly tough year, to put it mildly. The straightforward message is, I won’t be participating in cricket at any level again.”
Tom Morris from Nine reported last August that Pucovski had been medically retired months prior, though Cricket Victoria had denied this at the time.
Pucovski has experienced multiple concussions, which have kept him sidelined for extended periods. He last played in March last year, sustaining another concussion from a bouncer bowled by Riley Meredith while representing Victoria.
The 27-year-old acknowledged the challenge of coming to terms with the end of his career.
“It’d take me a few hours to recount the entire journey,” he reflected.
“Playing for Australia was always my dream, and I found myself living that dream in 2021.

“My aspirations extended beyond that. I wanted to lead the batting contingent and aspire to play 100 Tests.
“Regrettably, I now find myself among a distinguished group of cricketers who have only played one Test, and that’s where my journey concludes.”
Once hailed as a future star for Australian cricket, Pucovski played just one Test match for Australia back in 2021.
He made his debut against India, scoring 62 and 10.
Across 36 first-class matches, Pucovski accumulated a total of 2350 runs at an average of 45.19, including seven centuries.
Pucovski has been candid about his challenges with mental health and the “horrendous” impacts of concussion, detailing the persistent symptoms he continues to face.

“It’s a tangled situation. I deal with mental health issues, which is part of it, but there’s also significant fatigue—it’s quite severe. I suffer from frequent headaches,” he explained.
“I find it challenging to manage sensations on my left side. If something happens on my left, I feel nauseous and dizzy. I also struggle with motion sickness.
“At 27, there’s still so much ahead of me, and plenty I wish to accomplish in life. I aimed to play for another 15 years, but now that dream has been taken from me, which is heartbreaking.
“At least I won’t have to worry about taking another hit to the head, but the ongoing symptoms are daunting.
“Reflecting on who I was before the concussions versus now is alarming. My family and friends have also noticed changes in me, and that’s concerning for both them and me.”
Pucovski is set to transition into coaching at the Melbourne Cricket Club.
