The quarter-final clash of the Women’s Champions League featuring FC Barcelona and VfL Wolfsburg will be held at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
Originally set for the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, the match is now slated for Thursday 27 March at 18:45. This alteration has raised some eyebrows among local supporters, who are disappointed by the anticipated drop in attendance capacity from 55,926 down to just 6,000.
Barcelona has offered the following explanation: “Given the heavy schedule of the Estadi Olímpic throughout March, including three LaLiga fixtures and one Champions League match, we cannot assure the pitch will be in optimal condition. Consequently, the club, in collaboration with UEFA, has made the decision to relocate the match to the Johan Cruyff Stadium.”
In a statement issued on Monday, the club noted that tickets for the encounter with the German side, who were European champions in both 2013 and 2014, will be available for purchase starting this Thursday, 20 February. Members will receive a 30% discount on tickets, while fans will benefit from a 15% discount.
Prior to this fixture, the first leg will occur on German territory on the 19th of next month. Following the two matches, the highly anticipated third Clasico of the season is set to take place, which is expected to be pivotal in the league title race. Immediate contenders include Eibar, Barcelona, and Costa Adeje Tenerife.
