In the past 18 seasons of the Nedbank Cup, a total of 18 different clubs have reached the final, starting from the competition’s restructured format in 2008.
Out of these finalists, nine have lifted the trophy, including the 2026 contenders TS Galaxy, who famously claimed the title as the only club from outside the Premier Division by upsetting Kaizer Chiefs in the 2019 final.
This season, they face Durban City in the final at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday (kick-off at 18:00), with City previously reaching the final under their former name, Maritzburg United, in 2018. On that occasion, they were defeated by Free State Stars in Cape Town.
The Orlando Pirates have the most final appearances, with seven, clinching victory in four of those to be level with Mamelodi Sundowns as the competition’s most successful teams.
The Sundowns, however, boast a slightly higher success rate, having won four titles from six final matches.
Only four other teams have made it to more than one final.
SuperSport United has participated in four finals, securing victory in 2012, 2016, and 2017 while finishing as runners-up in the 2013 showdown.
The reigning champions, Kaizer Chiefs, reached their third final in 2025, overcoming the Pirates 2-1, adding to their earlier success against SuperSport in 2013, though they fell short against Galaxy in 2019.
Bidvest Wits and Marumo Gallants each boast one victory from two final appearances. Wits triumphed over AmaZulu in 2010 but lost to Pirates in 2014, while Gallants defeated Chippa United in 2021 but were beaten by Sundowns the following year.
Three clubs maintain a perfect record in Nedbank Cup finals, albeit with just one appearance each.
Free State Stars, Moroka Swallows, and Galaxy have all won their respective finals, with Galaxy eager to become the first club to retain a flawless record with multiple appearances.
Nine clubs hold the unfortunate status of reaching the final without ever winning the trophy.
Notably, no team has achieved this feat on two occasions, so Durban City will be keen to steer clear of such a fate.
The other clubs that have reached the final but failed to capture the trophy include Ajax Cape Town, AmaZulu, Black Leopards, Bloemfontein Celtic, Chippa United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Sekhukhune United, and the University of Pretoria.
