Why Manchester City is Well-Positioned to Withstand Arsenal’s Premier League Challenge

On April 11, Arsenal had the opportunity to extend their lead to 12 points over Pep Guardiola’s side—with games in hand on their rivals—which would have solidified their position as title contenders.

We can’t overlook the last match of the 2022/23 season when Villa was leading City 2-0 only to concede three goals in six minutes, gifting Guardiola’s team a title that had seemed destined for Liverpool mere moments earlier.

For Arteta and his squad, another key factor is the mental fortitude of the players, especially with injuries to Mikel Merino, Bukayo Saka, Riccardo Calafiori, and Jurrien Timber.

Arteta will undoubtedly urge supporters to continue ‘trusting the process’ and to reflect on that spectacular unbeaten streak as evidence that Arsenal can put an end to their 22-year wait for a title.

However, the outcome of this season’s trophy is now beyond their control, and if City can maintain their composure, they could secure an astonishing seventh Premier League title in nine seasons.
