Bayern Munich marked their 35th title in the German top flight with a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal semi-final, securing their spot in the final for the first time since they triumphed over Die Werkself in 2020.
This match was crucial for Bayern, not just as a step towards breaking their Cup drought, but also in sustaining their hopes for a treble this season.
Vincent Kompany’s side started strong, with Luis Díaz coming close with a curling shot that was deflected wide by Mark Flekken.
Leverkusen had brief moments of joy with their attacking attempts, but Bayern regained control by the 20-minute mark and soon celebrated their opening goal.
Michael Olise’s flick on the right allowed Jamal Musiala to pull it back into the box for Harry Kane, who composed himself before smashing it into the top of the net.
Continuing their dominance in search of a second goal, Bayern saw both Joshua Kimmich and Olise test Flekken, while Kane narrowly missed out on what would have been his 53rd competitive goal of the season with a powerful volley that flew just over.
The first half concluded with tensions rising, and both sides used that intensity to drive forward after the break.
Robert Andrich made a crucial clearance to boot Díaz’s chipped effort off the line, but soon after, Manuel Neuer matched that with a brilliant stop against Nathan Tella’s shot from the edge of the box.
Knowing a single goal might not suffice against a team that had netted at least three times in each of their previous six home games in the Pokal, Bayern pushed for additional goals. Flekken denied Kane a 16th brace of the season.

However, Leverkusen’s fortunes improved with around 20 minutes remaining, as Patrik Schick met Jarell Quansah’s cross with a header that sailed just over the bar, but they struggled to create much further.
In the dying moments, Bayern struck on the counter, as Leon Goretzka played Díaz through, who executed a delicate chip into the net.
With the league title already secured, Germany’s most decorated club can now focus on the Pokal final – where they will face either Stuttgart or Freiburg – alongside a semi-final showdown with holders Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
Leverkusen, on the other hand, have not tasted success since their domestic double two years ago, and their supporters will be hoping for a shorter wait for silverware this time around compared to their previous 31-year drought.
