Bayern Munich’s midfielder Jamal Musiala has faced a challenging season due to a broken leg. However, since his return to the pitch in January, he has begun to make his mark, and coach Vincent Kompany believes he is on the verge of elevating his game to an entirely new level.
The 23-year-old Germany international suffered a fibula fracture along with a broken and dislocated ankle after a collision with former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during the Club World Cup last July.
Having made his comeback at the start of the year, Musiala has steadily increased his playing time as he aims to secure a position in Germany’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in June.
Bayern teammate Serge Gnabry shouldered much of the responsibility in Musiala’s absence but is currently sidelined for several weeks due to an adductor muscle injury.
With Bayern preparing for a semi-final clash in the German Cup against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, Kompany is looking for Musiala to rise to the occasion.
“At the moment, Jamal is in a great phase,” he stated during a press conference on Tuesday.

“I mentioned back in January that he’s physically developed. He’s now approaching his optimal physical condition, both in strength and his willingness to sprint.”
“The key question is when will the ‘Magic Musiala’ return? It’s inevitable. Those moments will return. But even at this moment, what he’s delivering is highly impactful in front of goal.”
In just 600 minutes on the pitch, Musiala has accumulated nine ‘scorer points’, which encompass both assists and goals across all competitions, according to Kompany.
Bayern Munich, aiming for the treble and having not reached the German Cup final since 2020, clinched the Bundesliga title on Sunday with a 4-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart, marking a successful run with four matches left to play.
The team also prepares to face PSG next week in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
“When he regains that total freedom, which will happen, we will see an even more advanced version of Musiala, and as a coach, that brings me joy,” Kompany further emphasised.
“With nine scoring points in 600 minutes, he has clearly demonstrated that he is ready.”
