Cameron Green’s explosive campaign in the IPL has taken a sensational turn, with the $4 million recruit being stumped in a bizarre manner just as his season appeared to be on the upswing.
Entering the fray at 2-5 in the second over during Kolkata Knight Riders’ successful chase against Rajasthan Royals, the 26-year-old was in fine form until he was brilliantly stumped by Dhruv Jurel for a quick 27 off 13 balls.
Jurel, nearly exiting the field, executed a remarkable glove work on Ravi Bishnoi’s delivery that angled down the leg side. He flicked the ball back to the stumps and caught Green well beyond the crease.
The Austrailian didn’t wait for the square-leg umpire’s call; it was later confirmed after being referred upstairs.
West Indies commentator Ian Bishop hailed Jurel’s glovework as “outstanding”.
Former England captain Kevin Pietersen took it a step further, declaring on X that it was “the greatest stumping ever in cricket”.
While Green appeared stunned as he walked off the field, his short knock was crucial for the Knight Riders, who secured their long-awaited first win of the season in their seventh match.
With a sixth straight defeat looming, Rinku Singh’s powerful hitting ultimately led them to victory by four wickets, finishing at 6-161 with two balls to spare.
Green’s brisk 27 marked his third highest score in the tournament so far, as the pressure on the Australian begins to lift after a shaky start that saw him accumulate just 56 runs in his first five innings.
Following a blistering 79 on Friday, his performance on Sunday, batting at number four, continued to shift the narrative amidst concerns about his place in the team given his hefty price tag. He struck four boundaries, including three off his first four balls, and hit a six.
Just last week, former Australian captain Aaron Finch questioned KKR’s decision to continue selecting Green.
“There comes a time when you have to acknowledge that it hasn’t quite worked out,” the ex-Australian opener stated on ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut show.
“That doesn’t mean his tournament is over, but there comes a moment when you need to rethink your lineup and how you want to structure it.”
However, following his recent displays, it appears that the all-rounder is beginning to find his form again after a challenging six months, which included a disappointing Ashes series.

In other news, Australian rising star Cooper Connolly smashed a stunning 87 off 46 balls, featuring eight boundaries and seven sixes.
His impressive half-century played a pivotal role in lifting Punjab Kings to an imposing total of 7-254, sharing an extraordinary 182-run partnership for the second wicket with opener Priyansh Arya.
Despite Mitchell Marsh scoring 40 off 28, Lucknow Super Giants fell short with a total of 5-200 in their reply.
This marks Connolly’s second half-century out of five innings this season.
Punjab Kings coach Ricky Ponting lavished praise on Connolly’s performance, highlighting his contribution alongside Arya.
“I’m very pleased with the team’s display. Particularly the way Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly batted today was absolutely exceptional,” he commented.
“Both players were my picks for player of the match. Their efforts allowed us to set such a substantial target and exert pressure on LSG. That’s why we secured the victory. Full credit to both of them.”
