Carlton’s head coach, Michael Voss, has revealed that Elijah Hollands is feeling “quite shattered” and “emotional” following his performance on Thursday night.
Footage has been shared on social media showing Hollands behaving unusually during Carlton’s match against Collingwood at the MCG, where the Magpies triumphed with a score of 13.10 (88) to 12.11 (83).
In the game, Hollands recorded just one disposal over 60 per cent of game time.
“I had a heart-to-heart with him, and he was quite emotional after the match,” Voss said.
“He didn’t play his best game and found it difficult to get into the flow of things.

“He was obviously really upset with how he played and understood his significance for the evening.
“He feels as though he has let everyone down, but it’s crucial that we continue to support players during these challenging times.”
Hollands concluded the match on the bench.
“He was visibly disappointed with himself and his performance,” Voss continued. “As we approached the final quarter, you have to assess the mix on the field with five minutes remaining, and it was clear he wasn’t having a good night.
“We kept the lines of communication open with him, and ultimately, we felt it best not to have him on the field.”
