UEFA has dismissed Barcelona’s appeal regarding the officiating in their 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid during the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, as announced by the governing body on Tuesday.
Barcelona sought a penalty after Atletico’s goalkeeper, Juan Musso, seemingly restarted play from a goal kick just before defender Marc Pubill handled the ball within the six-yard box.
Referee Istvan Kovacs allowed the game to continue, and the VAR officials did not intervene to review the situation.
The Catalan club formally lodged a complaint on Thursday; however, UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body ruled the appeal as inadmissible.
“After the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, between FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona filed an appeal concerning a refereeing decision. On 13 April 2026, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body found the appeal inadmissible,” stated UEFA in their announcement.
Barcelona and Atletico are set to face each other again in the second leg later on Tuesday.
