Sirius currently tops the Allsvenskan table on goal difference after just two matches of the season, having stunned one of the title contenders, Hammarby, with a 2-0 victory at home. In another encounter, Bromma witnessed late drama as they played to a 2-2 draw against AIK.
Sirius 2-0 Hammarby
The two teams that secured the largest wins in the opening round faced off in Uppsala for the second round, with Hammarby’s victory over the reigning champions Mjallby being viewed as particularly impressive.
However, that performance proved inconsequential as Sirius struck first within the ninth minute. Isak Bjerkabo intercepted the ball just past the halfway line, found space to exchange a quick one-two with Oscar Krusnell, and sent the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Despite dominating possession, Hammarby struggled to craft meaningful chances to respond, and Sirius put the match beyond doubt with 20 minutes left on the clock.
A long clearance from goalkeeper David Celic was contested between Robbie Ure and Hammarby defender Victor Eriksson. When the Scottish forward won the duel, he sprinted clear and slotted home his second goal of the season past Warner Hahn.
With two victories and two clean sheets, Sirius leads the standings, ahead of Djurgarden, the only other team with a perfect record after two matches.
Brommapojkarna 2-2 AIK
A dramatic equaliser in the dying seconds ensured that Brommapojkarna would draw for the second time in a row, while AIK started their season under Jose Riveiro with four points from their first two matches.
The action ignited just before the hour mark when Brommapojkarna goalkeeper Leo Cavallius mistakenly passed the ball to Taha Ayari at the edge of the box, allowing Zadok Yohanna to square it to Bersant Celina, who deftly slid the ball past Cavallius.
However, the home team quickly responded to level the score within three minutes. A cross from the right found David Isso, whose header struck the post, and Mads Hansen was on hand to capitalise on the rebound and score.
AIK appeared to have secured the win when Victor Andersson soared to head in a cross from Johan Hove with 12 minutes remaining. But they were denied the three points five minutes into stoppage time.
A long, probing pass created chaos in the AIK penalty area, with a fortunate ricochet setting up Alex Timossi, whose shot was deflected past Sweden’s first-choice goalkeeper, Kristoffer Nordfeldt, resulting in a shared outcome.
