Liam Rosenior has acknowledged that Chelsea finds itself in a “challenging situation” following Sunday’s disheartening 3-0 loss against Manchester City, which has intensified scrutiny on the Blues’ manager.
In a disappointing second half at Stamford Bridge, Rosenior’s team conceded three goals, with Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi, and Jeremy Doku finding the net for the title-contending City.
Chelsea currently sits in sixth place in the Premier League, trailing fifth-placed Liverpool by four points as they vie for a spot in the top five.
With their chances of Champions League qualification hanging by a thread, Rosenior is facing tough questions regarding Chelsea’s performance since taking over from Enzo Maresca in January.
The Blues have suffered five defeats in their last six matches across all competitions, including three consecutive losses in the league.
In those three Premier League losses, Chelsea has yet to find the back of the net, and Rosenior expressed that they have not met the standards he expects from them.
“The performance in the second half was simply not good enough. It’s been a recurring issue over the past month when dealing with adversity,” he explained.
“When you go behind against teams of this calibre, the key is to remain competitive for the next five minutes. Unfortunately, the second half proved to be extremely tough.”

As the full-time whistle blew, Chelsea supporters voiced their displeasure with boos, and Rosenior anticipates facing further criticism from frustrated fans unless performances improve in the concluding weeks of the season.
“I take full responsibility for this. We are a collective that needs to evolve. It begins with instilling the right habits and values. While I can’t fault the effort, there was a noticeable drop in confidence during the second half,” he noted.
“Improvement is essential. We find ourselves in a tough position, and we have another massive match ahead of us next week.”
“We must remember that we were up against a team in exceptional form that’s vying for the title. Nonetheless, we need to secure victories in matches like these. That’s the reason I joined the club.”
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez was absent for the second consecutive match after Rosenior’s contentious decision to suspend him.
Fernandez’s recent suggestion that he might consider leaving in the summer angered Rosenior.
However, the Argentine will be permitted to rejoin the team next week after discussions with his teammates.
“Every team misses a player like Enzo. My decision, supported by our leadership group and sporting directors, was made for the long-term benefit of the club,” Rosenior mentioned.
“Enzo expressed a desire to speak with the key players in the squad. He has had discussions with me, the leadership group, and the entire squad.”
“This is not personal; he’ll be back with the group on Tuesday. He is a top player and a fantastic individual.”
