Eredivisie title holders PSV secured their first victory since clinching their 27th league crown last weekend, defeating Sparta Rotterdam 2-0.
As they embarked on their season as 27-time Eredivisie champions, PSV handed an unexpected start to 18-year-old Belgian prodigy Noah Fernandez in midfield, filling in for Joey Veerman, who was sidelined with an injury during Saturday’s clash against Sparta Rotterdam.
Following a few early opportunities for Sparta, PSV regained control and began to test goalkeeper Joël Drommel relentlessly. Attempts from Ricardo Pepi, Paul Wanner, Ivan Perisic, and Ismael Saibari all went unrewarded as they sought to break the deadlock.
However, Pepi finally found the net just before half-time, expertly directing a header from a Guus Til cross to give the visitors a crucial lead right before the break.

PSV seemed to lose their momentum after the break and came dangerously close to conceding an equaliser when Joshua Kitolano failed to connect properly, rolling the ball harmlessly towards goalkeeper Matej Kovar, marking Sparta’s best opportunity of the encounter.
Despite not being at their best, PSV managed to secure a second goal late in the match, with in-form midfielder Ismael Saibari sealing the deal and bringing the final score to 2-0 at Het Kasteel.
