Bayern Munich is set to face Aston Villa in a pre-season friendly in Hong Kong this August, as announced by the German club on Friday, along with details of another match in South Korea.
Under the guidance of Vincent Kompany, the Bundesliga champions will take on South Korean outfit Jeju SK on August 4th. Following that matchup, they will head to Hong Kong for a clash against Premier League side Villa three days later.
The two teams previously met last season in the Champions League, where Jhon Duran netted the sole goal, securing a 1-0 victory for Unai Emery’s squad.
Currently led by English striker Harry Kane, Bayern is atop the Bundesliga and recently triumphed over Real Madrid, winning 2-1 away in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
This will mark their second visit to South Korea and Hong Kong, having played there once before.
Adding to their defensive strength, Bayern features South Korean international Kim Min-Jae.
Aston Villa, who are on the verge of reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League, mentioned on their website that they “hope to announce additional fixtures in the Far East shortly.”
As teams embark on their pre-season tours, they must find a balance between profitable engagements and player welfare, particularly with the World Cup scheduled from June 11th to July 19th.
