Juventus got off to a blistering start in their quest for a much-needed Serie A victory, claiming a 2-0 win at home against Genoa. This result marks only their third win in eight matches, while Genoa struggles to stay six points above the relegation zone after suffering consecutive defeats.
Luciano Spalletti must have wanted his players to be mentally sharp before the match, and they certainly took that advice to heart.
It took less than four minutes for the home side to find the net. Khephren Thuram’s half-clearance was headed back into the danger zone by Lloyd Kelly, and then Bremer redirected the ball into the goal with a big deflection, leaving Justin Bijlow wrong-footed.
Thuram came close again shortly after, striking from 25 yards out, but Juventus’ flying start was rewarded with a second goal in the 17th minute.
A swift counter-attack saw Weston McKennie send the ball out wide to Francisco Conceicao, who attracted the defenders before setting it up for McKennie to unleash a low, first-time finish into the net.
Genoa finally found their footing midway through the first half, mounting a period of pressure, but their inability to convert chances was evident when Kenan Yildiz’s curling shot was comfortably saved by the Juve keeper.
Just before the break, Juventus nearly sealed the match. Yildiz nodded a deep cross from Conceicao back across goal, but astonishingly, McKennie missed from mere two yards out, clearing the crossbar instead.

In the second half, McKennie’s misfortune continued when Thuram opted to square a floated free-kick instead of taking a shot, and McKennie could not stretch enough to make contact.
A poor clearance by Bijlow presented Juventus with another opportunity, as Jonathan David aimed a shot from the edge of the box, only for his effort to strike the woodwork.
Tommaso Baldanzi finally got Genoa their first shot on target, which Michele Di Gregorio—who had come on for Mattia Perin at half-time—easily dealt with. However, McKennie made an important block on the next play to deny Aaron Caricol.
As the game approached the final 20 minutes, Bremer uncharacteristically conceded a penalty due to a foul on Caricol, a call confirmed by VAR after the referee initially signalled for a free-kick.
The player who was fouled took the penalty, but Di Gregorio guessed right, saving both the penalty shot and denying Caricol’s follow-up volley.
Di Gregorio then secured his clean sheet by stopping a late header from Patrizio Masini, while Arkadiusz Milik’s effort from just inside the Genoa half narrowly sailed over the bar.
Juventus now find themselves unbeaten in five Serie A matches and have dominated previous encounters with Il Grifone, who missed out on a rare chance to achieve back-to-back away wins.
