Paris Saint-Germain will head into their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg with a two-goal cushion after defeating Aston Villa 3-1 in a commanding display at the Parc des Princes, effectively ending Villa’s remarkable seven-match winning streak.
Unai Emery faced his former team PSG for the first time in his managerial career, and directed his players to restrain their opponents during the initial stages. However, the lively hosts still managed to threaten the Villa goal on several occasions.
Both Vitinha and Ousmane Dembele forced Emiliano Martinez into action, with the former also sending a fierce effort over the Villa crossbar.
While Villa struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, they proved successful in disrupting PSG’s rhythm and gradually gained more control over possession as the first half progressed.
All Villa needed was a breakthrough, and they showcased their quality in the 35th minute by stunning PSG with the opening goal.
John McGinn reclaimed possession at the halfway line and switched the play to Marcus Rashford, who then fed Youri Tielemans down the left flank. The Belgian cleverly slid the ball across the goal, allowing Morgan Rogers to arrive perfectly and finish, sparking wild celebrations in the away end.
Yet, their hard work was undone mere minutes later by a moment of individual brilliance. Desire Doue drifted in from the left, evaded Rogers, and unleashed a powerful shot into the far top corner that left the Villa defence stunned.
Doue continued to wreak havoc on the Villa defence until the half-time break, and his side was still charged up following the restart, ultimately taking the lead for the first time.
Fabian Ruiz sent the ball wide to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who breezed past Axel Disasi before firing into the roof of the net from a narrow angle.

The hosts maintained their dominance, with Achraf Hakimi also going close, but they failed to convert several chances, allowing Villa a couple of late opportunities, including one for PSG loanee Marco Asensio.
Just when it seemed Villa might hold on valiantly with a narrow deficit, Dembele threaded a precise pass to Nuno Mendes. The defender advanced on goal, outsmarting both the defender and the goalkeeper before confidently sliding in PSG’s third goal.
This result complicates Villa’s task for the second leg, while PSG firmly retain their status as favourites to lift not just the Champions League, but also the Coupe de France, following their recent Ligue 1 triumph.
