Wolverhampton Wanderers dealt a significant blow to Ipswich Town’s slim hopes of survival, as Jorgen Strand Larsen scored his fourth goal in three outings to seal a second-half comeback and likely cement Wolves’ Premier League status for next season.
This marked Wolves’ first top-flight visit to Portman Road in over four decades. They tested the home side’s resolve early on with Alex Palmer recording a couple of impressive saves, but the visitors soon found themselves trailing.
Liam Delap continued his fine form, scoring in two consecutive matches after he capitalised on a header from Dara O’Shea, seizing the opportunity inside the six-yard box.
As Ipswich looked to maintain their lead heading into the break, a momentary lapse from Palmer saw a simple back pass slip under his foot, forcing him into a frantic scramble to prevent the ball from crossing the goal line.
The ensuing indirect free-kick awarded to Wolves from six yards prompted a nervous hush among the home crowd, which quickly turned to relief as their captain Sam Morsy executed a well-timed block to deny the close-range attempt.
Having finished the first half strongly, Wolves continued to press after the interval. Gomes, who was finding increasing space as Ipswich retreated, unleashed a powerful strike from distance that struck the post, leaving Palmer stranded as Vitor Pereira observed his side’s dominance from the stands.
Wolves’ relentless effort eventually paid off with a well-deserved equaliser. Jorgen Strand Larsen did brilliantly to sustain a promising attack and played the ball back to substitute Pablo Sarabia at the edge of the area. Sarabia maintained his composure, finding a pathway for a shot that sent the ball into the bottom corner.

The visitors’ dominance made a second goal seem almost certain. This time, it was Sarabia who provided the assist, delivering a clever first-time pass across the goalmouth, allowing Strand Larsen to prod the ball home, effectively confirming Wolves’ grip on Premier League football for next season.
With this latest setback, Ipswich remains at the bottom of the table, having earned fewer points at home than only Southampton. Their return to the Championship now appears almost inevitable, with Wolves pulling 12 points clear of the side just above the relegation zone.
