Aston Villa’s head coach Unai Emery has addressed the media in his recent press conference as he gears up for the FA Cup clash against Tottenham this weekend.
Emery first confirmed that both Andres Garcia and Donyell Malen will not be included in their European squad.
“The decision was made yesterday, and they are out – Andres Garcia and Donyell Malen,” he stated.
“It wasn’t an easy choice, but I had conversations with both Andres and Donyell to explain the decision.”
Emery then shifted his focus to January recruit Marcus Rashford, who joined from Manchester United following weeks of speculation.
“I’m really pleased with the transfer window we had and I’m very glad to have him. Our conversation was quite normal, just a chat between a player and a coach, discussing football.”
“What I want from him is to deliver his best on the pitch. As a person, we’re bringing him into the squad as another player who can contribute to our efforts.”
“His ability and potential still have a lot to offer. I’m not overly concerned about why he’s moving from Manchester; I’m just happy to have him with us.”
“My goal is to help him rediscover his form, both individually and as part of the team. Our challenge together is significant, and his challenge with us is quite exciting.”
Emery also discussed the FA Cup, expressing his desire to deliver a performance that the fans can be proud of this weekend.
“The key for Sunday is to enjoy a match at Villa Park with our supporters. This cup has great prestige in England and means a lot to many fans.”
“It’s crucial to progress in this competition and make it memorable. We’re looking forward to playing at Villa Park with our supporters on Sunday.”
“The opponent is Tottenham, and there are numerous aspects that are both positive and challenging for us in terms of how we can perform.”
Emery expressed his admiration for Tottenham, who have had a mixed start to their season.
“I hold Tottenham in high regard. They have some players out injured and a few doubts throughout the league campaign, but they boast a strong team.”
“The coach has demonstrated his ability to play attractive football, both last year and at times this season. We faced them in our only league encounter and suffered a 4-1 defeat; they played exceptionally well.”
“I’m expecting their best performance on Sunday. We reviewed their most recent match yesterday and we will analyse not only that but their previous game as well.”
“They might have some players sidelined, but those who are available will be quality players. They have my full respect.”
He then touched upon the transfer window and his ambitions for the team to secure a spot in European competition.
“The January transfer window is always challenging, but we’ve been competing very well. Our aim for the remainder of the season is to regain some of the good form we didn’t find in the first half of the season.”
“In the league, we aren’t in a comfortable position. Our goal is to push ourselves into European contention. While we are somewhat close, we need to do more.”
“We must enhance our performances in the league during the upcoming matches. We’re in a strong position in the Champions League, progressing to the last 16 and performing well or even better.”
“The FA Cup is also significant, and this match on Sunday is just one step. It all depends on the outcome if we can advance in this competition, but our goal in the FA Cup is to strive for a trophy.”
