RB Leipzig managed to withstand a determined comeback to secure a 3-2 victory against a struggling Wolfsburg, snapping a dismal streak of nine away matches without a win. As a result, this marks Wolfsburg’s fourth consecutive loss, a scenario they haven’t faced since December 2021.
The home side nearly got off to a dream start when Jonas Wind, who has been without a goal in his last 11 appearances, squandered a golden opportunity after a deflection fell his way in the box, but he scooped his shot wide of the near post. Just moments later, Leipzig capitalised on this miss as Lois Openda unleashed a powerful low shot from 25 yards that found its way into the bottom corner, putting his team ahead.
This marked Leipzig’s first league goal away from home in over seven hours of action, and shortly after, Benjamin Šeško thought he had extended their lead, only for VAR to disallow the strike due to an offside call.
Wolfsburg had a narrow escape with that controversial decision, as the determined hosts soon rattled the crossbar with a clever flicked header from Bence Dardai. However, Leipzig’s second goal was imminent, with Arthur Vermeeren surging forward and setting up Xavi Simons, who struck emphatically from 20 yards, firing home with precision.

Despite being down, Wolfsburg continued to fight, forcing Leipzig’s Peter Gulacsi to make a routine save from a header by Patrick Wimmer, followed by a stunning strike from Jakub Kamiński that rattled the bar after a slick move to cut in on his stronger foot. The hosts’ momentum couldn’t be maintained into the second half, however, as Simons struck again, curling a shot into the far corner shortly after the restart.
Wolfsburg responded with a stunning goal from Kilian Fischer, who unleashed a brilliant long-range effort over Gulacsi and high into the top corner, reigniting hope for the home side.
This spurred them on, and Mohamed Amoura went close twice, first dragging a shot wide and then being thwarted by a fingertip save from Gulacsi, who deflected what could have been a curling equaliser from danger.
Leipzig’s nerves were tested further when Andreas Skov Olsen found the net for Wolfsburg, lifting the ball into the top corner from close range to bring the score to 3-2.
The match continued at a frenetic pace, with Gulacsi again called into action to deny a brilliant volley from Yannick Gerhardt. At the other end, Kamil Grabara made a remarkable point-blank save from Christoph Baumgartner, allowing Leipzig to cling on to a vital win that lifts them back into the Bundesliga’s top four.
Wolfsburg, meanwhile, remain trapped in the lower half of the standings and are still searching for their first home victory in six matches.
