Real Sociedad Ascend the Table with Impressive Victory Against Las Palmas

Las Palmas’ winless streak against Real Sociedad has now reached eight matches following a 3-1 defeat at Estadio de Gran Canaria, leaving them firmly entrenched in the relegation zone.

Without a win in their last 11 league fixtures, the hosts endured a dismal start, conceding the first goal just five minutes into the match.

Ander Barrenetxea was instrumental in creating the opening goal, drifting infield before unleashing a shot that Croatian goalkeeper Dinko Horkas could only parry directly into the path of Mikel Oyarzabal, who easily slotted the ball into an empty net.

Despite this early setback, Las Palmas responded well, coming close to equalising when Oli McBurnie was through on goal. However, still searching for his first LaLiga goal of the season, he hesitated in front of goal and lost possession to Alex Remiro while attempting to go around the goalkeeper.

Fabio Silva was spearheading the host’s attack, recording five shots in the first half, with his closest effort arriving just before half-time when he struck the crossbar from close range.

Las Palmas continued to push for an equaliser after the break but were dealt another blow in the 56th minute when Barrenetxea escaped down the left wing, delivering a pinpoint cross that Sergio Gomez converted with a simple tap-in at the far post.

With a mountain to climb, Las Palmas found a glimmer of hope when McBurnie finally netted his first goal, converting from close range after Silva manoeuvred past the defence.

However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed just eight minutes later, as La Real reinstated their two-goal advantage.

Jon Aramburu seized on a defensive lapse to score his first goal for the club, effectively sealing the match for Sociedad.

This victory keeps Sociedad’s slim European aspirations alive as they close the gap to the top six to just six points. In contrast, Las Palmas remain winless in 12 league outings, trailing safety by four points with only eight matches remaining.
