The head of Chelsea, Enzo Maresca, assured fans that he still has the full support of the club’s owners, despite an increasing amount of unrest among the Chelsea supporters.
Though the team secured a spot in the Conference League semi-finals on Thursday, the mood was dampened by the boos that echoed from the crowd after their 2-1 defeat to Legia Warsaw in the second leg of the quarter-final.
Chelsea’s struggles have seen them drop to sixth place in the Premier League, having managed only five wins from their last 16 matches.
“Absolutely yes, without a doubt,” Maresca responded when asked if he still felt supported by the club’s management, which has seen three managers dismissed in under three years at Chelsea.
“We’ve spent nearly all season in a Champions League position, and we’re in a European semi-final. So why change anything now?
“I have no doubts about the path we’re on and how we’re executing it.
“We’ve had setbacks for various reasons, like tonight against Legia, but I believe these experiences will make us stronger moving forward.”

Chelsea’s captain, Reece James, expressed that the team had shown “disrespect” to the Conference League with their lacklustre performance at home against Legia, especially after winning the first leg 3-0 in Poland last week.
“In some ways, he’s correct; we mismanaged the game due to our first-leg result,” Maresca acknowledged, adding that James’ comments highlighted the team’s internal dynamics.
“He’s right about that; his insights reflect what’s happening inside the dressing room.”
Earlier in the season, Maresca had critiqued James for his leadership qualities, but he now believes the England right-back is evolving into a strong figure for the squad.
“My aim was to draw more leadership from him, and he is indeed stepping up well in that regard,” the Italian remarked.
“When there’s a lack of leadership, it’s essential to cultivate new leaders within the group. Right now, Reece is doing an excellent job, along with a couple of other players who are stepping up to help the team.”
