Barcelona’s manager, Hansi Flick, was keen to temper expectations regarding potential silverware following his team’s gritty 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, which secured their place in the Copa del Rey final against arch-rivals Real Madrid.
Currently, Barcelona boasts a remarkable 21-match unbeaten streak across all competitions and stands as the sole team among Europe’s top five leagues yet to experience defeat in 2025. They’re vying for three titles while delivering some of the most exceptional football seen by their supporters this season.
However, Flick urged caution regarding their hopes of achieving a treble, stressing the importance of maintaining a focus on the next match. He reminded the players that there is little room for mistakes.
“I’m aware everyone is eager for us to discuss the final; it’s a ‘Clasico’, I understand that. But I don’t dwell on the past or the future; our focus must be on Betis, our upcoming opponents in LaLiga,” Flick stated during a press conference.
“Indeed, we’re enjoying a great spell, but I’ve been around long enough to understand how quickly fortunes can change. So, we must stay concentrated.
“It’s fine to dream, but we first need to work diligently and maintain our focus to keep that dream alive.”
Barcelona currently occupies the top spot in LaLiga with 66 points, three ahead of Real Madrid, while third-placed Atletico trails by six points in the title race with nine matches remaining.
Real Madrid is set to head to London to take on Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals next week, while Barcelona will entertain Borussia Dortmund.
The two teams are scheduled to face off in the Copa del Rey final on April 26, before clashing again in Barcelona on May 11, a match that could hold significant implications for the LaLiga title.
“This evening, I’m solely focused on this excellent victory, which brings me great joy,” Flick commented.
“Everyone can take pride in this team; we as coaches are immensely proud. I’ve always been optimistic, and I won’t hide the fact that I had high hopes for this team since I joined last summer.
“I told them I was thrilled, and if we performed as we did today, success would follow. We displayed courage and resilience. Keeping a clean sheet at this stadium is no small feat, as Atletico is one of the top teams in Europe. Hence, we should hold our heads high.“
