Christian Eriksen has reassured fans there’s no need for alarm following Ruben Amorim’s remarks about Manchester United needing to be ‘cautious’ regarding Eriksen, emphasising the ongoing effects of his 2021 cardiac arrest on his career.
Eriksen missed United’s recent match against Tottenham due to illness—a game that ended in a 1-0 defeat for Amorim’s side. The Portuguese coach addressed Eriksen’s situation during a press briefing.
Amorim stated: “I believe Leny (Yoro) and Chris were unwell. They’ll recover, of course. Chris has his heart condition, so we must approach that with careful consideration.”
‘It’s not an issue with his heart! I’m merely highlighting that his heart rate needs monitoring because he’s dealing with a fever.’
During Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland, Eriksen experienced a cardiac arrest towards the end of the first half, collapsing on the pitch.
Now 33, Eriksen has made a remarkable recovery, showcasing his talents at Brentford and more recently at United, although concerns persist about the long-term impact on his career.
The level of worry surrounding his health prompted Eriksen to issue a rare statement on social media, aiming to alleviate the anxiety over his heart condition.
“I want to express my gratitude to everyone who sent their well wishes for my recovery after missing the game against Tottenham. I was battling a virus, like many others this season. It’s nothing serious, and I’ll be back in training soon,” he posted on Instagram.
Eriksen may return to the pitch this Saturday afternoon when Manchester United take on Everton at Goodison Park.
