Real Madrid must stop dropping points in LaLiga if they wish to remain in the hunt for their title defence, following a streak of three matches without a win, manager Carlo Ancelotti stressed on Saturday.
With Barcelona capitalising on Real’s errors to claim the top spot on goal difference, Atletico Madrid lies one point behind in third place, intensifying the competition for the title.
Ancelotti implored his squad to replicate the intensity displayed during their victory over Manchester City in the Champions League knockout stages when they face Girona on Sunday.
“This is a pivotal moment in the season, and we need to deliver a performance like we did against City (on Sunday). We cannot afford any more slip-ups; the league is fiercely competitive and every match is critical to build momentum heading into the final stretch,” Ancelotti said at a press conference.

“While we have faced a bit of bad luck, I thought we competed well against City, so we need to keep this momentum going. If we maintain a strong performance and a positive attitude, the results will follow.
“This is essential in a competitive league like Spain, where winning is incredibly tough. With three teams within just one point, all of them have a very high level. I believe this season, the title race will come down to the final match.”
England’s Jude Bellingham will miss the match against Girona after being handed a two-match suspension for inappropriate language directed at the referee during last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna.
Ancelotti is looking forward to the challenge against city rivals Atletico in the Champions League round of 16.
“It will be a tough encounter, as always. However, I anticipate it will be an exciting, balanced tie. The quality of both teams is quite comparable,” Ancelotti added.
