Brazil concluded Croatia’s impressive nine-match unbeaten streak (W8, D1) with a dramatic 3-1 victory at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando during a friendly encounter.
This match served as a crucial final opportunity for both managers to evaluate their squads before the season draws to a close, with several players possibly vying for a place in this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
In the first half, Dominik Livakovic showcased his exceptional skills, denying Danilo’s shot before thwarting Joao Pedro’s attempt at netting his inaugural goal for Brazil from close range. The goalkeeper also managed to divert Matheus Cunha’s curling effort from outside the box, yet despite his valiant efforts, he couldn’t stop Croatia from trailing by half-time.
Vinicius Junior spearheaded Brazil’s counter-attack, laying off a pass for Danilo, who made no mistake in blasting the ball into the top of the net. This came shortly after Luka Vuskovic directed a header straight at Bento from a free-kick taken by Luka Modric, which was Croatia’s most significant chance leading into the second half.
Zlatko Dalic’s side continued to pose a threat, compelling Bento to make another save from a long-range effort by Andrej Kramaric shortly after the interval.
As anticipated, Brazil introduced several substitutes in the second half, including goalscorer Danilo, along with several notable players. Consequently, Croatia gained control of possession and created a number of chances, with Nikola Moro coming close with a powerful shot that went just wide.
Finally, their relentless pressure paid off as Lovro Majer equalised, deftly converting Toni Fruk’s incisive cross beyond the advancing Bento.
However, Brazil quickly regained the lead after Endrick was fouled in the penalty area, earning the Selecao a penalty. In only his second appearance for the national team, Igor Thiago confidently converted, sending Livaković the wrong way.
To secure their victory, Carlo Ancelotti’s team added a third goal through Gabriel Martinelli, who expertly fired Endrick’s assist into the bottom corner. This marks Brazil’s second win in their last five matches (D1, L2), providing them with an ideal boost ahead of the upcoming finals this summer.
Meanwhile, despite the disappointing result for Dalic, his team performed commendably. Their display in this match, along with their recent form, suggests they will be a formidable opponent in North America come June and July.
