Coventry’s manager, Frank Lampard, has been honoured as the Championship Manager of the Season following the club’s promotion to the Premier League.
A crucial point from their 1-1 draw against Blackburn on Friday, courtesy of an 85th-minute equaliser by Bobby Thomas, was instrumental in securing Coventry’s promotion.
This marks Coventry’s return to the English top flight for the first time since the 2000/01 season, and Lampard has received widespread acclaim for his impressive management.
The Chelsea icon has now been acknowledged as the Championship Manager of the Season, with his team sitting comfortably 10 points ahead at the summit with five matches remaining.
Reflecting on the award, he stated: “I felt quite emotional the other evening when it hit me what we have accomplished.”
“I joined a club 16 months ago that had faced significant challenges but has now risen again. Football is fundamentally about its people and supporters, and I had truly missed that connection.”
“I must give credit to Mark Robins for his earlier work at the club, along with owner Doug King, and it’s important to savour this moment as I collaborate with such a fantastic group of players.”
“When you enter a new team, it’s essential to look beyond just footballing ability; it’s about players taking care of themselves, training diligently, supporting one another, and enjoying the process—that’s where the true value lies.”
“It’s an extraordinary journey, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”
