Lukasz Fabiański has shared his experiences of joining Arsenal and the intense competition he faced within the squad. “When I arrived, there were already Manuel Almunia and Jens Lehmann in goal, and soon after, Wojciech Szczęsny came on board. It was quite a challenging environment to step into.
“To be honest, I don’t think I was fully prepared for that role at the time—and I mean that not just in a footballing sense, but particularly from a mental perspective.
“Even as a young player, Wojciech distinguished himself with his confidence. While he still had some physical maturing to do, his talent was clear from the outset. It was evident right away that he was destined to become a top-class goalkeeper.”
The Polish keeper also reflected on West Ham’s Conference League final in Prague. “It’s not something you’d typically associate with West Ham winning a European trophy. Sure, perhaps a good FA Cup run or a cup final, but a European title was a different story.
“The final in Prague was particularly memorable as I had around thirty family members there. After the match, we celebrated together on the pitch and later at the hotel. It was a moment I will never forget.”
