UEFA has dismissed Barcelona’s complaint regarding the officiating in their 2-0 home loss to Atletico Madrid during the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, as stated by the governing body on Tuesday.
Barcelona argued for a penalty after it appeared that Atletico goalkeeper Juan Musso had reintroduced the ball into play from a goal kick, leading to defender Marc Pubill handling it within the six-yard box.
However, referee Istvan Kovacs opted to continue the match, and the VAR officials did not call him to review the incident on the monitor.
Barcelona submitted an official complaint on Thursday, but UEFA’s Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body ruled that the complaint was inadmissible.
“After the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, between FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona lodged a protest concerning a referee decision. On 13 April 2026, the UEFA Control Ethic and Disciplinary Body deemed the protest inadmissible,” UEFA outlined in their statement.
Barcelona is set to face Atletico again in the second leg later this Tuesday.
