Jason Day is content to take on the role of the pursuer as he enters the final round of the 2026 Masters, with a genuine opportunity to become only the second Australian to don the coveted green jacket.
Despite trailing defending champion Rory McIlroy by eight shots as he started the third round, Day (-8) is set to tee off on Monday morning at 5:03 am, now only three shots adrift of McIlroy and American Cam Young, both on -11.
Pacing ahead of Day before the final round are American Sam Burns (-10) and former Open champion Shane Lowry (-9).

Sharing the same score as Day is last year’s playoff runner-up, Justin Rose, who will join him as his playing partner for the final round.
“The players at the top have all the pressure right now,” Day remarked.
“I’m the one chasing. Typically, the chasers don’t feel as much pressure. The leaders are always defending their position, while I’m focused on narrowing the gap.
“I’ve got a good feeling about my game. I’m quite pleased with how things are shaping up. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead.
“If I can position myself near the lead on the back nine, I’ll be very satisfied.”
Adam Scott remains the only Australian to claim golf’s most prestigious title, having won it in 2013.
